     Several Gateway sites explain the how and the why of many basic fields of science:

     

    • Eric Weisstein's World of Science and  Treasure Troves of Science, online encyclopedias of astronomy, chemistry, math, music & physics.  
    • Marshall Brain's How Stuff Works.
    • SciCentral - highly recommended K-12 Science links.
    • Science Web - Focusing on Canadian activities, this site includes news about current science and a Teacher’s Corner of web resources by subject.
    • NRC Journals offers free, full-text access to scientific journals in biochemistry, botany, engineering, fisheries, forestry, microbiology, pharmacology and zoology published by the National Research Council. 
    • VisionLearning Library peer-reviewed learning modules in the fields of math, chemistry, physics, astronomy, biology and earth sciences, prepared by professional educators and scientists. Free registration is required for some interactive portions of the modules.
    • Why Files helps kids uncover the science behind the news.

    Academic Search Elite at Coquitlam and Port Moody
    Academic Search Elite offers full text for nearly 2,050 scholarly journals, including nearly 1,500 peer-reviewed titles. This multi-disciplinary database covers virtually every area of academic study. More than 100 journals have PDF images back to 1985.

     

    Science Online at Coquitlam

    This handy database covers biographies, essays, diagrams, experiments, definitions and timelines on everything scientific.  An excellent resource for science projects or for the scientist in you!

     

    Access Science at Port Moody
    The online version of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology provides access to the latest information in all scientific fields. Searchable by keyword or subject, this database also provides news articles on science and technology. This database is available from your home computer.

    • Extreme Science informs students about the largest, smallest, highest, deepest, longest extremes in the world around us. Volcanoes, earthquakes, and more!
    • Museum of Unnatural Mystery is a cyberspace museum of scientific curiosities, dangerous explorations, lost worlds and science in today's news. Includes a Children's Reading Room of science stories for kids.
